Join us in the beautiful Bonhays, West Dorset for an intensive weekend with Tom and Hannah, designed to deepen your practice, study the postures and delve into the philosophy, ethics and history of yoga.
We know a large number of you have wanted something to build knowledge without having to do a full teacher training, so with this weekend, we hope to offer something beyond a retreat, without the stress of a teacher training. A space in-between.
The retreat will run Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, and alongside a 2 hour full ashtanga-based vinyasa practice each day, it will involve posture workshops, basic anatomy breakdowns within postures (and anatomical variations that may well impact on how each posture is aligned in the individual), traditional theories of energy (prana) within postures, an introduction to the “8 limbs” of Ashtanga, the ethics of yoga, and various meditations.
You will also have time to enjoy and explore the surroundings, have a dip in the pool and be nourished with hearty, fresh, locally sourced food.
Shanti means peace and this is what our whole weekend will encompass.
This retreat is perfect for those who have busy working lives and can't always spare a full week for a Yoga retreat.
Yoga is a beautiful physical, mental and spiritual practice and over the course of the weekend we will explore moving freely (asana), breathing deeply (pranayama), and seeing clearly (meditation).
Arriving from 3pm Friday afternoon we will have time to settle in, get to know one another and enjoy our first Yoga session before our evening meal.
Saturday and Sunday will be filled with plenty of traditional Yoga practices starting with meditation and pranayama early morning, followed by some tea, coffee and fruit. At 8:30am we’ll gather for our morning Yoga practice to energise the body, followed by breakfast. Well then have some free time to use the centres beautiful facilities, before eating a delicious lunch together.
Our afternoon will consist of a short optional talk on Ayurveda and Yoga on Saturday and the History of Yoga on Sunday. Then an afternoon Yoga and meditation class to calm and nourish the body and mind.

Mindfulness
Who would you be without your story?
Imagine if you could let go of the past and the future, and be free of becoming, grasping, judging, and the pressure to achieve. Imagine realizing everything in your life - the problems, emotional patterns and traumas - have been specifically created for your own unique awakening.
We are not here by chance, struggling alone to cope with the problems of existence, we are invisibly guided by the Intelligence of Life while those around us on our journey are our guides. Once we let go of resistance and see ourselves with compassion and acceptance, we begin to view the world through the eyes of the heart. Only then can we move beyond our limiting personal self to an awareness of the One movement of Life. This movement is total peace, infinite love...’

‘Yoga is the perfect opportunity to be curious about yourself’
All curious yogis are welcome to join me at the beautiful Bonhays Retreat Centre where we have the luxury of 3 days to explore and be inspired by some of the many wonderful teachings of yoga. Move beyond the asana and delve deeper. Just as a seed is nourished toward growth by the earth, the sun and the rain, let yourself be nourished by the asana, pranayama, mudra, bhanda, mantra, yamas, niyamas …. and more! Using inspiring writings poems, stories, myths and mantras we will cultivate ourselves and grow in our understanding and experience of yoga.
Jane has evolved her own personal style of teaching yoga , drawing on her experience of Dru, Scaravelli and Iyengar yoga teachings. She also introduces into her classes ancient Tibetan healing techniques, working with the breath and visualisation to create a free flow of energy through the whole system, both physically and mentally.
Jnana Yoga – Finding your inner wisdom through mindfulness.
The retreat will include meditation, yoga asanas (postures) and yogaphilosophy. There will be time to swim, walk, rest and spend time with others on retreat or take time out for you. The objective for the weekend is to take time out from your normal responsibilities, routines and daily workloads and enjoy the wellness and mindfulness you can learn from yoga teachings which can be integrated back into your home life.
The yoga I teach is a subtle style; it is often slow and flowing, sometimes strong but in the moment. I use yoga philosophy with each movement. Breathing is important to enhance the benefit of each asana (posture) Some asanas are held in meditation. Effortless awareness is necessary to come to stillness where the mind and body find harmony, so silence within is experienced.
The varied activities throughout the weekend mean you can participate in as much or as little as you can manage, allowing you to choose how much you learn and take away from the weekend.
Join Soraya to celebrate the Summer Solstice, exploring our connection with the rhythms of nature, lightness and darkness, through dynamic flowing practices with an emphasis on alignment, the breath and self exploration. Early evening Restorative yoga will help to draw you deeper within and find stillness, just as the earth becomes still as night falls. In the afternoon there will be Nordic Walking with Hilary Warrell, time outdoors immersed in light and sea air.

We are passionate about the full spectrum of yoga. We live, teach and embrace the richness of a yogic lifestyle. We endeavour through our teaching to share our own experience of yoga as a transformative practise on and off the yoga mat. Our classes are inspired by our study of classical teachings of Hatha yoga in disciplines that include Iyengar, Ashtanga, Sivananda, Satyananda, Krishnamacharya and Dona Holleman's enlightened asana work. We teach group classes and private lessons, host courses, workshops and retreats, and organise Yoga Teacher Training programmes.

The eyes are ‘the windows to the soul’. When we gaze deeply into the eyes of another person, we can see beyond their physical body and personality into their essence. It is a wonderful way to connect at the soul level.
We will be exploring different kinds of vision and meditation in such a way that you may experience a deeper connection to your own centre and to the soul of others.
We will alternate between times of ‘darkness’ (‘not seeing’ with the eyes) and being in light – removing veils of apparent separation through becoming more receptive.
This can bring you into a sense of resting back into your true nature – with expanded and deeply relaxing states of consciousness that bring in-sight and centering.
During the weekend you will :
- Dissolve excess mental energy - relax into your body, open the heart and quiet the chatter in your mind
- Rest and rejuvenate the eyes using breath, touch, periods in darkness and different kinds of vision
- See yourself - in a new way. You may have a fresh vision of life and its possibilities.
- See others deeply - acknowledging both the human struggle and the luminous, sparkling spirit.
- Feel deeply seen and held by others in a way that melts tensions, fosters trust and inspires.
- Soften the layers around the heart and come to your loving essence.
- Refresh your spirits, sense joy and well being sourced deep within.

Ready to ‘stop the world’ and deepen your spirituality?
The pace of modern life can be hectic! A lot of people are stressed, drained or overwhelmed. Many people have a yearning to Be, just simply BE. The Darkness Experience weekend retreat can fulfill this longing. The Darkness effect is created by using special blindfolds that are designed to be worn comfortably for extended periods. They enable you to have your eyes open and yet be ‘in darkness’.
The Retreat includes :
Learning meditations from Buddhism, Sufism, Tantra, Advaita and Osho
Listening to exquisitely beautiful and emotive music,
Receiving inspiration through powerful and uplifting poetry and spiritual teachings
Unstructured ‘open space’ for rest and sleep, or whatever feels most nourishing to you in the moment.
………All whilst the Darkness works its own transformative magic on your body heart mind and soul.
It can help you :
Ease up on too much thinking: its like a mental detox!
Enjoy deep rest for your tired body and stressed mind.
Shift from doing-doing-doing to the ease of Being.
Shift from feeling time as a ‘pressure’ into a Timelessness that feels so spacious and free.
Come to a different perspective on your self, your habits and 'problems’ - and refresh your sense of what really matters in life.
Awaken the senses!
